Along with the American Association of Orthodontists, we recommend that a child receives their first orthodontic screening by age 7. This is because most children have lost most of their primary (baby) teeth by this age, and several permanent (adult) teeth have erupted. This allows us to evaluate their orthodontic condition effectively.

It is important to have your child examined by an orthodontic professional because it can be difficult for parents to assess their children’s orthodontic needs. Even if the teeth appear straight, there may be underlying issues such as impacted teeth, jaw alignment problems, or bite issues.

Left untreated, these underlying issues can cause more serious problems down the road. In addition, when children are still growing, early detection and preventative measures make future treatment significantly easier, more efficient, and more cost-effective.
